Jasprit Bumrah (India) has induced a false shot rate of 69% when bowling in the slog overs (16-20) in men’s T20Is since the end of the 2022 edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup, the highest such rate by any full-member side bowler to have bowled at least five slog overs in this span.
Nicholas Kirton (Canada) has logged a batting dot ball rate of 29.2% in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the second best among batters to have faced at least 30 balls so far (Marcus Stoinis – 22.6%); Kirton has scored 101 runs from 72 balls for the Maple Leafers in the competition so far.
Rohit Sharma (96 fours) is four away from becoming the second India batter to hit 100 or more boundary fours in the men’s T20 World Cup and fourth overall after Mahela Jayawardene (111), Virat Kohli (104), and Tillakaratne Dilshan (101); however, the Indian skipper has struck just 5 fours over his three innings in the 2024 edition.
Navneet Dhaliwal (941 runs) is 59 away from becoming the first batter to score 1,000 runs for Canada in men’s T20Is; however, after scoring 61 runs in their opening game (vs USA) of the ongoing edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup, Dhaliwal has failed to score more than six runs in each of his last two innings (4, 6).
India has a bowling strike rate of 17.3 in the middle overs (7-15) in men’s T20Is since the end of the 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup, the best of any full-member side in this span; in fact, the 95 wickets they have picked up during this phase in this span is also the most by any side.
Canada have lost each of their last three men’s T20Is when batting second on the day, having won six such games consecutively prior to that; however, the Maple Leafers are yet to chase a total in the ongoing edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup, having lost the toss and put in to bat first in all three of their games so far.
India have lost just one of their last 10 men’s T20Is (W9 - including a super over win), with the sole loss coming against South Africa (by 5 wickets) in December 2023; the last time the Men in Blue went on winning streak longer than their current 7-game stretch was between November 2021 and February 2022 (12-game streak).
Canada have won just one of their seven men’s T20Is played in the United States (L6), with their sole win coming against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York; this will be the Maple Leafers’ first T20I at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill and India’s eighth (P7 W5 L2 – vs West Indies).
India have won each of their three games in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, making it just the second time they have won their first three games of a campaign (also in 2014); in 2014 the Men in Blue won their first five games, going on to lose the competition final to Sri Lanka (by 6 wickets).
This will be the first meeting between India and Canada in international cricket; Canada lost their most recent meeting against a full-member side in men’s T20Is (by 7 wickets vs Pakistan), after winning two in row in such games (both vs Ireland).
