Imrul Kayes has blasted his way to a sensational century to lift Bangladesh to an imposing total in the First ODI in Mirpur. Kyle Jarvis left the hosts reeling on 139/6 with a triple wicket burst in the middle overs, but then Kayes found a reliable partner in Mohammad Saifuddin. The two left-handers set about building steadily, before unleashing in devastating fashion towards the death. That leaves Zimbabwe needing 272 to start the series with a win, a tough target on a tricky surface.

Bangladesh have taken a 1-0 lead in their ODI series with Zimbabwe thanks to a 28 run victory in Mirpur. The hosts were under a massive amount of pressure after winning the toss and batting first, finding themselves 139/6 after a burst of wickets for Kyle Jarvis. The key moment of the match came when Mohammad Saifuddin edged one to slip but the umpires deemed it to fall short of the fielder, who claimed the catch. From there Saifuddin built a match-winning partnership with Imrul Kayes, the two left-handers combining for 127 runs in destructive fashion. Kayes was finally dismissed for an incredible 144, the highest ODI score by a Bangladesh batsman on home soil. In the chase, the tourists never looked like getting close as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Mehedi Hasan chipped in with 3/46, a career best in this format for him, including a spectacular return catch. Zimbabwe will be looking to bounce back in the Second ODI on Wednesday.
