Welcome back for the chase. The Irish players are out in the middle. Jatinder Singh and Aamir Kaleem to open for Oman. Matthew Humphreys to bowl first.
...THE CHASE...
A mountain to climb - Oman’s bowling unit have reached a worrying low point in the 2026 T20 World Cup, having now conceded back-to-back totals of over 200 runs. They were beaten comprehensively by Sri Lanka. Will we see a better performance from the Oman batting group, or is another big loss on the cards? Chase is coming up next.
Advantage, Ireland! It began as a dream start for Oman, as Shakeel Ahmed bowled with clinical precision to claim three crucial wickets within the Powerplay, leaving the Irish top order in tatters. Oman strategically utilized their spinners for nine of the first ten overs, successfully drying up the runs and keeping Ireland under immense pressure. However, the momentum shifted dramatically when Lorcan Tucker decided to take the attack to the opposition. As Tucker’s aggression mounted, Oman’s disciplined start crumbled, the bowlers struggled to maintain their lengths under the onslaught, conceding far too many boundary deliveries that allowed Ireland to wrestle back control and post a commanding total.
Irish skipper steps up - In a must-win encounter to keep their top-two aspirations alive, Ireland’s captain, Lorcan Tucker rose to the occasion with a career-defining performance. After surviving a close stumping scare while in his late 20s, Tucker seized the lifeline with clinical aggression, scoring an unbeaten 94 off just 51 deliveries. His knock provided the backbone for the Irish total, while a late-game cameo from George Dockrell added the necessary fireworks to push the score beyond the 200-run mark, giving Ireland a comfortable cushion and all the momentum heading into the second innings.
SIX! Make that three in a row to finish the innings! Sufyan Mehmood serves this full and well outside off. George Dockrell somehow manages to reach out for it and muscles it over the deep extra cover fence for half a dozen more. Ireland end on a massive 235/5.
SIX! Back-to-back sixes! Sufyan Mehmood misses the yorker and bowls another slot delivery, on leg. George Dockrell gets right under the ball and pumps it over the long on fence for another biggie. Tucker will be left stranded on 94 at the other end, but he won't mind one bit here.
SIX! Clean strike! Sufyan Mehmood tries the slower one, but serves this right in the slot, on middle and leg. George Dockrell gets his front leg out of the way and slogs it over the deep mid-wicket fence for a biggie.
A fine yorker now, on middle, George Dockrell can only dig it back to the bowler.
Fuller and around middle, Lorcan Tucker moves across to scoop but hits it towards short fine. The fielder almost gets undone by the spin but manages to stop it well. A single taken. Tucker moves to 94 now.
Low full toss around off, Lorcan Tucker drills it towards long off and calls for the second. The fielder is a bit late to get to the ball and Tucker gets back for the second easily. Jatinder Singh is not happy with the effort. That partnership moves to 51 off just 14 balls now.
Overpitched and outisde off, George Dockrell lifts it wide of long off for a brace. 21 runs of the over, 47 in the last two.
SIX! Up, up and away! This is very ordinary bowling from Jiten Ramanandi. He dishes out another juicy full toss, on middle. George Dockrell is never going to miss out on that and smokes it over the long on fence for a biggie.
Fullish and down the leg side again, Lorcan Tucker crouches low but paddles it straight to short fine for just one. Gets away with it.
FOUR! Top shot! Jiten Ramanandi misses the yorker and serves this full, around off. Lorcan Tucker gets underneath the ball and lofts it over extra cover for a boundary.
WIDE! Pitched up but down the leg side. Lorcan Tucker moves across, goes down and tries to swipe it but misses. Wided.
A wide yorker, outside off, George Dockrell squeezes it out through point for a single. 200 UP FOR IRELAND!
SIX! Ireland are hitting sixes for fun now! A full toss, outside off. George Dockrell extends his arms to reach out for it, opens the face of his bat and carves it over the deep extra cover fence for a biggie.
Jiten Ramanandi to bowl the penultimate over. Oman are begging for a wicket right now.
SIX! SMOKED! 26 runs off the over! Mohammad Nadeem bowls this full and on middle, right in the slot. Lorcan Tucker clears his front leg away and clubs it over the long on fence for another six.
A rare dot ball! A slower bouncer, on middle, Lorcan Tucker tries to upper cut it but fails to connect.
SIX! Oh..that is a massive hit! Mohammad Nadeem bangs this into the pitch, on middle, not short enough to trouble the batter. Lorcan Tucker picks up the length early, pulls it powerfully over the deep mid-wicket fence for half a dozen more.
FOUR MORE! 14 runs off the first 3 balls. Pitched up and on middle, Lorcan Tucker gets right under it and thumps it past the bowler for another boundary. Tucker moves to 74, and this is now the highest score by an Irish batter in a T20 World Cup.
FOUR! Gets it away! Fuller delivery, on middle and off. Lorcan Tucker just opens the face of the bat at the last moment and steers it wide of short third for a boundary.
SIX! That's a freebie and Lorcan Tucker is never going to miss out! Mohammad Nadeem bowls a juicy full toss, down the leg side. Tucker picks it up and helps it on its way over the deep backward square leg fence for a biggie.
A low full toss, on off, Gareth Delany drills it wide of long off for a brace.
George Dockrell is the next batter in.
OUT! TAKEN! Oman finally have another wicket, and Shah Faisal breaks the massive 101-run stand. He pitches it up and just outside off. Gareth Delany looks to go big down the ground but just fails to get under it and his bat turns in his hands as well. He does not get the elevation as the ball flies towards long off, where Ashish Odedara comes forward, fumbles but manages to grab it on the second attempt near his chest. Delany departs for an excellent knock of 56 off 30, and Ireland lose half their side now.
FOUR! Lovely shot! Shah Faisal goes fuller and outside off, pace on this time. Gareth Delany reaches out for it a bit, opens the face of his bat and slices it wide of deep point for a one-bounce four. That brings up the 100-RUN STAND between the Irish pair.
SIX! FIFTY FOR DELANY! A 28-ball half-century and he gets to it with a bang as well. Shah Faisal pulls his length back a bit, on off, takes pace off as well. Gareth Delany reads it early, waits for it and launches it over the long on fence for a biggie. This has been a fantastic knock from him, and he will look to finish with a flurry here.
Moving on - Right then, that wraps up this one-sided affair, as Ireland knock Oman out of this World Cup. Now we turn our attention to a mouth-watering European clash between England and Scotland at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. That game will get underway shortly, so switch tabs and join us for all the build-up and live coverage. Cheers!
The victorious skipper of Ireland - Lorcan Tucker says it was great to turn around from the last match. Acknowledges that Oman are a good side, they are competitive and bowled really well in the first 10 overs. Talking about the points table, Lorcan says they want a couple of results to go their way.
The captain of Oman - Jatinder Singh says that since it was a new track, they wanted to bowl first. Adds that they wanted to assess the conditions as in the last game, they were put into bat after losing the toss. Mentions that they were in the game, picking up four quick wickets, but praises Lorcan Tucker for his knock and the way he built the partnership with Gareth Delany, calling it a masterclass. Tells that they just could not execute their plans with the ball under pressure. Singh credits his spinners, but also admits that after the early wickets, they let that partnership build, which cost them. Says that they were in the chase till the 10th over, but losing too many wickets for 25-odd runs did not help their cause. Further adds that as a side, they do lack experience and exposure but playing against top sides, will only help them improve and every game is an oppurtunity do that.
Let's hear from the captains now...
Ireland clamp down when It matters - Ireland were solid with the ball overall. Matthew Humphreys set the tone with an early wicket, although they did leak runs during the Powerplay. But once Barry McCarthy removed Kaleem, Ireland tightened the screws and never allowed Oman any breathing space. Humphreys went on to add another to his tally, while Josh Little was the standout with a three-wicket haul, and McCarthy helped finish the job. There were a couple of run-outs, but they also put down a few chances in the field, which remains a worrying area for them in this World Cup and one that needs improvement.
An Irish run-fest unleashed - Earlier in the game, Ireland racked up the highest total of this World Cup, powered by a stunning unbeaten 94 from skipper Lorcan Tucker. He put on a crucial 101-run stand with Gareth Delany, who chipped in with a fluent half-century, and the pair rescued Ireland after an early collapse. George Dockrell then provided the late fireworks with a blistering 35 off just nine balls, lifting the total well past the 200-run mark. For the bowling side, Shakeel Ahmed was the standout performer with a three-wicket haul, all three strikes coming in the Powerplay, while Kaleem and Shah picked up one apiece. However, the pacers struggled badly, conceding a combined 138 runs in eight overs, which left them with far too much ground to make up.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Ireland skipper, Lorcan Tucker, wins the award for his excellent knock of 94* off 51. Former Pakistan international, Waqar Younis, hands over the award to him. He says they had a mixed Powerplay but as the pitch was good, they had to capitalise on it. Tucker reckons that he just tried to keep the tempo up and not rush anything. Mentions that the other batters played handy knocks to get the score over 200.
From flying to falling apart - Despite losing their skipper early, Oman flew out of the blocks thanks to some fluent strokeplay from Aamir Kaleem, racing to 63 in the Powerplay. The 73-run stand between Kaleem and Hammad Mirza kept them in the hunt, but once Kaleem got out after bringing up his fifty, becoming the oldest player to score a T20 World Cup half-century, the innings completely unraveled. Mirza fell just short of his own milestone not long after, and from 97/2 Oman slumped to 139 all out, with just one batter other than the two mentioned getting to double digits, a sorry collapse after such a promising start.
Irish surge keeps the dream alive - Ireland have kept their World Cup campaign alive with a dominant all-round display here, excelling with both bat and ball. In the process, they have handed Oman their third defeat of the tournament, making them the first side to be eliminated, which will be hugely disappointing for them.
OUT! TAKEN! A superb all-round performance from Ireland. Barry McCarthy bangs it short and on middle, pace on and Sufyan Mehmood forces his pull shot. He gets a top edge to mid-wicket, where Ross Adair tracks back and holds onto it. IRELAND WIN BY 96 RUNS.

Dragged length, on middle, Sufyan Mehmood pulls it along the ground to deep mid-wicket for one.
Serves it full and across the batter, outside off. Sufyan Mehmood slashes his blade and misses.
On a good length and around off, punched to point.
Hard length delivery, into the surface and dies off the deck. Faisal taps on top of the bounce and hits it to point for a single.
Barry McCarthy (2-0-29-1) is back on.
EDGED AND FOUR! A pace on shorter delivery on leg. Sufyan Mehmood stays back to pull but edges it fine, well past the fielder at deep fine leg for four runs.
A bumper, into the surface and on middle, Faisal hoicks it behind square on the leg side for one. A misfield but they settle with a run.
FOUR! A nice-looking boundary! Pitches it up and bowls in the slot. Faisal checks his drive and punches it nicely over Adair's head. It rolls past mid off for a boundary.
WIDE! Slower one, well down leg, Shah leaves it alone.
Short in length and on middle, Sufyan Mehmood pulls but gets a top edge to deep square leg for one.
A tennis-ball bouncer, outside off. Sufyan Mehmood looks to pull it away but gets beaten by the lack of bounce.
Bowls a bumper into the surface and nipping on the hips. Faisal bunts it to mid-wicket for a single.
Uppish and hits in the vacant region! Floats it on the fuller side, outside off, Sufyan Mehmood makes room to go big but toe-ends his shot over extra cover. It lands safely for two runs.
Fuller delivery, turning in on middle and leg. Shah Faisal flicks it to mid-wicket for a single.
Shah Faisal is the last man in.
OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Matthew Humphreys picks up his second wicket. Tosses it up, touch fuller and around off, Shakeel Ahmed frees his arms and swings across the line but miscues it completely. It goes high and behind Matthew Humphreys, who runs back and takes it over his shoulder to his left.
Overpitched and around off, Shakeel Ahmed drives it straight to cover.
FOUR! Hits in the gap! Floats it fuller and around off, Ahmed slog sweeps with the angle, over square leg for a boundary.
Pushes it full and on the pads, Sufyan Mehmood nudges it to deep mid-wicket.
