Yudheeswaran led the charge - Coming in as the fifth bowler for Nellai, Valliappan Yudheeswaran was the star of the first innings, picking up 3/25 in his 4 overs. The Kovai Kings did get off to a pretty decent start and were 59/1 at the end of the Powerplay. However, once the partnership between Suresh Lokeshwar and Balasubramaniam Sachin was broken, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Skipper Shahrukh Khan was struggling with a knee injury but did muster up a few runs before tailenders like G Kishoor and P Vidyuth managed to propel them over the 160-run mark. As for Nellai, their spinners were yet again and Sachin Rathi even picked up a couple of wickets. Right then, with 163 needed for the win, Nellai will be favorites at the halfway mark, but early wickets could really do a world of good to Kovai. Stay tuned as the run chase is up next.
Advantage Nellai at the break - Nellai Royal Kings have justified their decision to bowl first with a very strong performance in the field. They took all their catches and conjured up a couple of run-outs as well, allowing no breathing room to Lyca Kovai Kings, who have finished with an under-par score here.
OUT! KISHOOR IS RUN OUT! That's the perfect end for Nellai Royal Kings in the field, and they have restricted Lyca Kovai Kings to 162/9. Valliappan Yudheeswaran goes full and wide outside off. But with everything on the line, Sachin Rathi held his composure, crunching a crucial boundary on the penultimate ball to seal a breath-taking two-wicket victory with just one delivery remaining!
The Easwaran storm - Nellai’s chase got off to a nightmarish start, reduced to 19/2 early on and crawling to 73/3 at the halfway stage with 90 runs still needed. But just as Kovai tightened their grip, Rithik Easwaran unleashed complete mayhem. He launched a ruthless counter-attack, smashing a sensational 69 off just 31 balls. Reaching his fifty in a lightning 25 balls, Easwaran single-handedly tore up the script and brought the required rate crashing down.
Kovai fight to 162 - Kovai bounced back from an early loss as Suresh Lokeshwar and Sachin B powered them to 59/1 in the Powerplay. But Yudheeswaran turned the game on its head, taking 3/17 and triggering a mid-innings slide to 65/3. Handy contributions from Shahrukh Khan and the lower order eventually pushed Kovai to a solid 162/9.
What an absolute thriller! Kovai Kings set a tough 162 on the board, but Nellai Royal Kings refused to back down under intense pressure.
