We are back for the chase! The umpires are back out in the middle and so are the players of Dindigul Dragons. Athish S R is the Impact Sub for Nellai. He replaces Rocky Bhasker and will open the innings alongside Santhosh Kumar D. P Bhuvaneswaran will start proceedings with the ball. Let's go...
... The Run Chase ...
Enough on the board? Barring the first game, we have generally seen scores of around 190-200 in Dindigul, and one feels that the home side is 10-15 runs short here. They lost two wickets in the Powerplay, and Anuraag Rajesh Nair threw away a good start. It was then Vimal Khumar who held everything together and his partnership with Hunny Saini ignited hopes that we might see another big score. However, Nellai skipper Sonu Yadav pegged the opposition back with 3 wickets. Emmanuel Cherian couldn't quite finish things off well as P Bhuvaneswaran's late flourish took the hosts to 170. Nellai will be confident, but if Dindigul get early breakthroughs, this could turn into a very close encounter. Stay tuned for the run chase.
A good tussle - The first innings ebbed and flowed one way, then the other, but in the end, Nellai Royal Kings will feel they are just ahead going into the break. 170 is nowhere near a small total but rather a middling total on this sort of surface, and Dindigul Dragons will believe that they can still defend it.
Edged and dropped! Wouldn't have mattered though, but the batters do get a single and Dindigul Dragons finish with 170/7. Full ball around off, P Bhuvaneswaran backs away to go over the off side but gets a thick outside edge. The keeper flies to his right but Rithik Easwaran fails to glove it. The ball rolls down to short third for a single.
NO BALL! Oh, that is a beamer from Emmanuel Cherian on the last ball. The ball slips out of the hands and ends up near the left shoulder of the batter. P Bhuvaneswaran ducks under it and the keeper is undone by the bounce as the ball rolls behind for four extra runs as well. Free Hit to follow...
FOUR! Clean strike from Bhuvaneswaran and much-needed as well. Full ball on middle, angled in, Bhuvi backs awya a bit and smacks it hard and to the right of mid on for a boundary.
Full and wide outside off, squeezed away through cover for one.
1 run, that is punched off the back foot for a single.
Full and straight, Mittan hangs back and drills it down to long on for one more.
1 run, that is flicked off the back foot for a run.
Back of a length and over middle, smashed back down the ground but without much timing. The mid on fielder cuts it off to his left and keeps it down to one run. Sonu Yadav finishes with brilliant figures of 4-0-24-3.

Mohit Mittan walks out to bat next. He's the Impact Player for DD, and he replaces Shivam Singh in the lineup.
OUT! CAUGHT! The pressure was mounting and Vimal Khumar simply had to go for it, but it doesn't come off. Sonu Yadav comes around the wicket and bowls a heavy length, darting the ball into the batter. Khumar looks to take it on but loses his shape and slices it towards wide mid off. Sachin Rathi takes a simple catch and that's the third wicket for the Nellai skipper and Khumar walks back after a fighting knock.
1 run, the pull shot comes into play. One run taken.
That's excellent from Sonu Yadav. A wide yorker, nailed in the blockhole and P Bhuvaneswaran fails to get any bat on it.
No ball! Full and straight, jammed down to long on for a single. However, Sonu Yadav has overstepped, and a No Ball is called. Free Hit loading...
No run, that is a cracking pull off the back foot, but for no run.
Plenty of action still to come - Right then, the first doubleheader of the weekend has provided plenty of runs and entertainment. Action in the 2026 TNPL comes thick and fast, and there's another doubleheader lined up on Saturday, August 8. We stay in Dindigul for now, and first up, it will be the Madurai Panthers taking on the Kovai Kings at 10 am GMT (3.30 pm IST), followed by a clash between the Salem Spartans and Trichy Grand Cholas at 2 pm GMT (7.30 pm IST). Player of the Match - Nellai Royal Kings' skipper Sonu Yadav has been given the award for his stellar all-round display, which included 3/24 with the ball and a late cameo with the bat.
The Presentation ceremony...
Lacking the depth - Dindigul Dragons brought on Mohit Mittan as a late Impact Sub in the first innings to give them those few extra runs, but this meant that they were one bowler short. P Bhuvaneswaran bowled well and got a couple of deserved wickets, as Sandeep Warrier and Nirankar Sharma bowled tight spells. However, the lack of the sixth bowling option meant there was nowhere to hide for M Karthik Saran and Sakthi Karuppasamy M, as they conceded a combined total of 87 runs off their 6.4 overs.
Aggression through and through - Nellai Royal Kings broke the back of the chase in the Powerplay itself, racking in 60 runs for the loss of one wicket. Santhosh Kumar D and Guruswamy Ajitesh laid the foundation with a 56-run 2nd wicket stand, and then Ajitesh added a further 67 runs with U Mukilesh. None of the three batters could cross the 50-run mark as all of them finished in the 40s, with Mukilesh remaining unbeaten on 43. Skipper Sonu Yadav came in late and added the finishing touches.
Nellai go to the top - 170 always looked like a middling total from Dindigul Dragons and even after a late wobble, Nellai Royal Kings have chased it down with plenty of balls to spare. Nellai's chase was spearheaded by 3 out of their top 4 batters and they now make it two wins out of two to start the season.
DROPPED AND SIX! That'll do it for Nellai! Hard length, angled across off. Sonu Yadav stays deep in the crease and swats it flat down to long on. Mohit Mittan leaps up a bit and spills it over the ropes. His second dropped catch, and Nellai Royal Kings win by 6 wickets.
SIX! Sonu Yadav takes full toll of the Free Hit. Slower delivery, pitched up in the slot on off. Yadav gets low and whacks it high and deep over long on for a biggie. Nellai are just one more big hit away from the win.
No ball! That's a big front foot No Ball. Seam-up delivery, on a length and darted across off. Yadav swings and misses, but he will now get a Free Hit to go after.
FOUR! Not a bad ball but it has gone to the fence. Full and wide, almost perfectly in the blockhole. Yadav reaches for it and slices it up and wide to the right of deep third for a boundary.
No run, beaten! Lovely bowling as the batter is defeated all ends up.
FOUR! Adding insult to injury and all the pressure is now released. Back of a length, slightly wide outside off. U Mukilesh hangs back and slashes it away through the gully region for a boundary. 16 needed now off 18 balls.
Wow, a double overthrow, that is sloppy from Dindigul. Hard length outside off, dabbed away to backward point for a quick single. The fielder misses the shy at the keeper's end and the ball rolls to deep mid-wicket for an extra run. However, that fielder throws the ball to the bowler, who fumbles it behind and concedes the third run.
Captain Sonu Yadav walks out to bat next.
OUT! CAUGHT! This is turning out to be a great comeback over from M Karthik Saran. On a hard length, slower delivery and over middle. Rithik Easwaran leans on and the ball holds in the pitch. Rithik gets stuck and the ball lobs off the face of the blade and towards wide mid on. Sakthi Karuppasamy M takes a simple catch and Dindigul are still in it.
Absolutely needless from the skipper. A well-directed slower bumper over middle and leg, U Mukilesh tries to make room and ramp but misses. Mukilesh wanders out of his crease for a second and Baba Indrajith fires in a direct hit at the striker's end but the ball deflects away for a bye.
1 run, this is driven through the covers for a single.
1 run, the batter goes back in the crease and works it away through mid on for a single.
Sandeep Warrier, P Bhuvaneswaran and Nirankar Sharma are all bowled out. M Karthik Saran is brought back on. 39 runs off his two overs so far.
On a good length and around off, pushed down to short cover for a quick single. 26 needed now off 24 balls.
