Player Biography

Few seamers in modern Indian cricket history have made the brand-new ball talk with the exquisite control and lethal late movement of Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Arriving at a time when Indian fast bowling was searching for a disciplined, swing-first operative who could exploit helpful conditions globally, he brought a classic, unhurried mastery to the craft. Born on February 5, 1990, in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, Bhuvneshwar built his reputation on the relentless domestic circuit, famously becoming the first bowler to dismiss Sachin Tendulkar for a duck in Ranji Trophy history.

His entry into international cricket remains one of the most stunning debuts of the modern era. Stepping onto the field against Pakistan at Bengaluru in December 2012 for a Twenty20 International, he delivered an extraordinary spell of 3 for 9, knocking over top-order batters with immaculate seam movement. Days later at Chennai, he made his One-Day International debut against the same opponents and clean bowled Mohammad Hafeez with his very first ball in the format. In February 2013, he earned his Test cap against Australia at Chennai, quickly cementing his role as India's premier new-ball threat across all formats.

Bhuvneshwar's peak red-ball moment came during India's 2014 tour of England, where his mastery of traditional swing produced a phenomenal all-round campaign. He snared 19 wickets across the series, highlighted by a majestic 6 for 82 at Lord's that set up a historic Indian victory, while also contributing three crucial half-centuries with the bat down the order. Beyond Test cricket, his technical refinement allowed him to master the art of death bowling in white-ball formats, developing a lethal knuckleball and pinpoint yorkers that made him a premier asset in high-pressure overs.

Across 21 Tests, Bhuvneshwar collected 63 wickets at an average of 26.09, alongside 141 wickets in 121 ODIs and 90 wickets in 87 T20 Internationals. He proved equally dominant in franchise cricket, becoming the first bowler to win back-to-back Purple Caps in the Indian Premier League for most wickets in a season while leading Sunrisers Hyderabad's attack. A crucial member of India's triumph at the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, his career stands as a testament to the deadly effectiveness of skill, seam presentation, and swing over raw pace.
