Edwards shines despite a tough outing - Australia had an eventful outing with the ball. Josh Hazlewood struck twice early, including a first-ball wicket and returned late to remove Bjorn Fortuin, while Jack Edwards was the standout wicket-taker with a maiden ODI five-wicket haul, breaking crucial partnerships along the way. However, he had earlier put down Bavuma when he was on 33, a chance that proved costly as the South African captain went on to make a century. Nathan Ellis’ side strain after his four overs forced Marsh to turn to part-time options, while Adam Zampa went wicketless for 77 from his nine overs. Miller and Bavuma turn the game around - Temba Bavuma anchored the recovery with a composed 103, while David Miller produced the innings-defining assault with 142 off 93 balls, his highest ODI score. Their 156-run partnership completely shifted the momentum after the early wickets and laid the platform for South Africa to push beyond 350. Miller’s dismissal triggered a late flurry of wickets, but Duan Jansen stayed unbeaten on 27 off 18 to ensure the hosts finished with a flurry.
South Africa finish with a strong total - South Africa have finished on 365/9 after 50 overs, recovering impressively from an early setback before putting together a commanding total. They lost Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock cheaply to leave themselves 36/2, but Temba Bavuma and Matthew Breetzke steadied the innings before the middle order took control. The late wickets gave Australia something to celebrate, but the hosts still managed to finish strongly, scoring exactly 100 runs in the final ten overs, with Duan Jansen providing a useful final push.
