Enough runs on the board? You really cannot put a number on what counts as adequate here. The pitch is slow, and getting the ball away in the initial stages is no easy task. But stick around long enough, and it has rewarded patience in a big way. The Rockets could not strike at regular intervals, but they made sure the runs never flowed either. And for a debutant Charley Phillips, it does not get much better than this, accounting for the wickets of both Voll and Devine on her very first outing. But the hosts will need a strong start with the ball if they hope to rein in the Rockets, a side stacked with a batting unit that has plenty of experience to call upon with the return of Sciver-Brunt as well. A quick word from the debutant - Reflecting on her debut, Charley Phillips described the experience as feeling pretty special. She shares that her Blaze teammate Georgia Elwiss presented her with her cap, adding that Elwiss said some really nice words during the presentation. An inning of two halves - That's how one would describe the way this innings panned out for the hosts. 41/2 in the first 50 balls. Followed by 88/1 in the next fifty. The Powerplay was all about caution, as Welsh Fire crawled through unscathed but without any real intent. Real momentum finally arrived through Sophie Devine and Freya Kemp, who put together a 71-run stand, before debutant Charley Phillips struck at just the moment Devine looked ready to change gears. Georgia Wareham then came in and provided a late shot of aggression, helping the Fire somehow limp their way to something respectable.

A late flourish - 30 runs in the last three sets have got the Welsh Fire Women into the sheds with a bit of momentum. On a surface where batting was never easy, this total might still fall a touch short of ideal, but there is enough there to make a proper fight of it. Welsh Fire Women, meanwhile, will want to head back to the drawing board and figure out exactly where things fell apart. Up next, it is the men of Welsh Fire and Trent Rockets who go up against each other at Sophia Gardens. The toss is just around the corner and the first ball is scheduled for 2 pm GMT. Whereas, up next in the women's game, the road trip continues down to The Oval, where hosts MI London Women lock horns with London Spirit Women in a proper London derby, followed by the men who play after that. PLAYER OF THE MATCH - BETH MOONEY receives the award for her swashbuckling 57 off 35 balls. Mooney says that he is happy with the performance of the team. She reckons that the opening partnership was pretty good and as the score was not too big, one big partnership was going to win them the game. She further says that Welsh had pretty good bowling plans but their batters did well to tackle that. Perfect launch and landing - The key differentiator was the Powerplay. Welsh Fire Women could only scrape together 15 runs in that phase, while Trent Rockets Women came flying out at 50 without loss. In truth, the result was all but written right there, with the Rockets openers making merry against a Welsh bowling effort that lacked any real discipline. Beth Mooney, who could only muster a duck and four in her previous two outings, came storming back with a blazing half-century, while Nat Sciver-Brunt, playing her first game of the season on return to the side, showed exactly why she remains so reliable. Between them, the two seasoned campaigners made sure there were no hiccups along the way, getting the job done with ease and very much on their own terms.

Just not enough on the board - For long stretches, Welsh Fire Women's innings chugged along in second gear, third at best, until Devine and Kemp hit the switch during the middle phase and gave it some real shape. Devine fell just short of a second straight fifty, but Kemp stuck around till the finish to see the innings through. Among the Rockets bowlers, debutant seamer Phillips stood out above the rest, with her slingy action troubling the batters throughout. She mixed her pace smartly too, banging the ball into the surface to make scoring that much harder. With Wareham's late cameo, they did manage to breach 120.

With this emphatic win, Trent Rockets Women get back on the winning trail, while Welsh Fire Women suffer yet another defeat on home soil, undoing all the promise they had shown in their previous outing. A pretty one-sided contest, really from start to finish. So a lot of soul-searching to do for Sophie Devine and her troops moving forward.

Short fine leg sprints across, flings herself at the rope and somehow gets a touch to stop it, but the replay shows that her hand had already brushed the padding.
