... THE RUN CHASE ...
A disciplined display - You have to tip your hat to Thailand and their control with the ball. They conceded no extras in the opening game against Hong Kong, China and just three extras tonight against India. The effort from the bowlers was backed up in the field, where they were pretty efficient with their catching and also produced a couple of direct hits. The leggie Suleeporn Laomi was the star of the show with a three-wicket haul and was well complemented by the others. It will take some doing for Thailand against this Indian attack to chase down 160, but a good start will be important to settle those early nerves. Do join us back in a bit for the chase.
Let's hear from Suleeporn Laomi - Suleeporn explains that she focused on bowling stump-to-stump because the ball was not turning much, noting that she was fortunate to reap the rewards with three wickets. She then expresses immense satisfaction with her performance, highlighting that India is a top-quality team and praising her side for putting up a strong overall effort.
A tale of two halves - That was the Indian innings summed up. Shafali Verma powered the Women in Blue to a solid platform, with them well placed at 101/2 at the halfway mark. With Verma going great guns, 200 seemed very much possible, but it all fell apart soon after. Wickets fell one after another as India slipped to 137/9 after being 112/3 at one stage. It took a late, useful hand from Kranti Gaud to propel the team past 150.
Thailand walk off with their heads held high - While they may not have managed to keep the score down to the 120 mark that captain Thipatcha Putthawong spoke about at the toss, they have done an excellent job to keep India under 160, considering the position they were in at the halfway mark.
FOUR! A good end ot the innings for the Women in Blue. India finish on 159/9. Floated up by Thipatcha Putthawong, outside off. Gaud dances down the track and reaches across to carve it inside out over extra cover. One bounce and over the ropes.
Across off, on a length. Shree collapses her back knee and slams it to the left of long on for a single.
Fired in very full, on off. Kranti shimmies down the track and opens up the off side to force it away. Miscues it off the inner half to long on. They cross.
SIX! India find the fence after 23 balls. Floated up, on off. Gaud skips down the track and gets to the pitch of the ball. She swings through the line and pumps it over long off for a biggie.
BYE! A stumping chance goes begging! Flatter and a touch fuller, outside off. Shree Charani skips down the track and ends up yorking herself before failing to squeeze it away. The keeper gets down, but fails to gather it. The ball goes through her legs, and the batter gets a run.
Tossed up, fuller, just outside off, Shree Charani punches it back to the bowler. Thipatcha Putthawong fails to field it cleanly, but the ball hits the boots of the bowler and deflects toward mid-wicket.

A juicy full toss now, flirting with the waistline of the batter. Kranti Gaud tries to smash it downtown, but hits it from the upper part of the bat. The ball balloons and drops safely, short of the long off fielder. It looked to be over the waist on replays, but the umpire is happy with the height.
On a nagging length, outside off, Shree Charani punches it to cover for a single.
Much fuller, around the middle stump, Gaud punches it to long on for one.
Aiming for a wide yorker, but spills a low full toss. Shree Charani drives it through cover and gets a single.
Gaud was gone with a direct hit. Full and around off. Gaud presses forward and strokes it wide of extra cover. Thipatcha Putthawong moves to her right and gathers the ball. She fires in a throw at the bowling end but misses. Putthawong could have taken a second or two to steady herself before having a shy.

Fuller in length, angling in. Shree Charani looks to flick, but gets beaten on the inside edge and wears it on the pad. It is definitely going down the leg side.
On the pads, full in length. Charani flicks it away behind square leg. The short fine leg fielder gives chase and slides to haul it in. Two taken.

OUT! TIMBER! Sensational from Chanida Sutthiruang. Just keep the ball at the sticks and let the magic happen. Full and straight, at the stumps. Nandani Sharma attempts to flick it away, but the ball sneaks past the inside edge and finds its way to crash into the stumps.
Short of a length, shaping in, at the stumps. Nandani Sharma covers the stumps and looks to flick it away, but gets beaten on the inside edge and takes a blow on her thigh pad. The appeal goes round, but the umpire turns it down and indicates that it was high.

OUT! STUMPED! A double whammy from Sunida Chaturongrattana. She offers flight, full and outside off. Rawat gives the bowler a premeditated charge and she does not manage to get to the pitch of the ball. She tries to reach out and meet with the ball but fails to do so. She is at a point of no return, and the keeper, Nannapat Koncharoenkai gathers it cleanly before whipping the bails off.
Tossed up, on off. Nandani Sharma reaches out in front and sweeps it to deep square leg for a single.
That's a wrap - India kick off their campaign with a win, but there continue to be concerns around their middle order. Up next, India face Hong Kong, China on September 3, while Thailand take on Pakistan on September 1. She says that she initially focused on finding the gaps and felt the ball came nicely onto the bat with the new ball. Mentions that once it got older and began to hold a little, she adjusted by playing it later and continuing to target the gaps. Shares that the team is happy with the win and will look to give their all in the tournament.

A mixed outing - Thailand Women put in a superb effort with the ball, one that made everyone sit up and take notice. Even after the kind of start India had to their innings, they did not let their heads drop and fought hard in the second half to put the cat among the pigeons in the Indian camp. Coming to their batting effort, the challenge was made even tougher by the absence of their designated skipper, Naruemol Chaiwai, who was the standout in the campaign opener against Hong Kong, China. Nannapat Koncharoenkai showed plenty of intent despite wickets falling at the other end, and she was the lone bright spot with the bat.
Stumbled with the bat, but had enough - Fireworks from Shafali Verma had taken India to 101/2 at the halfway mark, and with the depth they had, a total around 200 seemed on the cards, but Thailand fought back superbly with the ball and in the field. India managed just 58 runs and lost 7 wickets in the second half of the innings to finish on 159. With the ball, it was a mixed-bag start from the pacers, but once the spinners came on, they tightened the screws and chipped away at the wickets.
India off to a winning start - Stumbled with the bat but the Women in Blue had enough quality with the ball to get the job done. It was an inspiring bowling display from Thailand, but with the bat, apart from Nannapat Koncharoenkai, there was not much to write home about. It was always going to be a tough ask against this Indian attack, but Thailand will be better for the experience and can take plenty of positives from the game.
OUT! CAUGHT! Deepti Sharma wraps things up by picking the final wicket. She finishes with three wickets from the 7 balls she bowled tonight without conceding a single run. With that wicket, Deepti becomes the leading wicket-taker in Women’s T20Is, going past Thipatcha Putthawong with 171 wickets. India win by 94 runs. Sharma starts the over with a shorter one, pitching it just outside off, but the ball grips and turns into the batter sharply. Nannapat Koncharoenkai rocks back to cut it away, but the ball jumps on her and loops toward the silly point region off the shoulder of the blade. Richa Ghosh reacts quickly as she reaches across to her right and dives while extending her hands to pouch the catch.

Nannapat Koncharoenkai makes room and lofts it on the rise but does not quite manage to get hold of it. Spoons it wide of mid on, where Smriti Mandhana gets around to her left quickly. Onnicha is keen for a single, and seeing that, Koncharoenkai also sets off for the run. Halfway through the run, both batters hesitate, and that leads to the downfall of Kamchomphu. Mandhana picks the ball up and scores a direct hit at the bowling end. The replays confirm that the two batters did not cross, and hence, Onnicha Kamchomphu is deemed to be the one dismissed.
Smriti Mandhana produces the direct hit. Both batters stranded in the middle of the pitch, and the third umpire is called into action to check who will be adjudged out.
