Looking ahead - As they say, you don't judge a surface until both teams have batted on it. With the evening setting in and the conditions cooling down, the ball usually starts coming onto the bat more nicely. Whether that proves to be the case remains to be seen. If not, Welsh Fire will have to scrap hard for every run. It is all set up for an intriguing chase. Stay tuned.
A quick word - Ben Kellaway says that they have done well and the bowlers used their skills with efficiency, and feels that they have the batting to gun it down. On his catch, he says that fielding on this ground can be a bit tricky and was probably a bit lucky as well to avoid the boundary ropes. Adds that he was slow to start in the Blast, but the last 4-5 games have given him the confidence to do well here.
Brave made to grind - Unsure of how the dry surface would play, Phil Salt opted to bowl first, and his bowlers responded with a disciplined effort up front. It was a laboured innings from Southern Brave, with none of their batters able to get to grips with the surface or score freely. David Miller fought hard right through the innings and helped the Brave put up a fighting total. Marco Jansen was the pick of the bowlers for Welsh Fire with a couple of wickets, while Chris Woakes and Sam Cook also played their part.
End of a cagey first innings - It's a competitive total on what has been a sluggish surface, but whether it will prove enough remains to be seen. 45 runs came off the last 20 balls, and Brave will take a bit of momentum with them into the break.
A couple of runs to end, and that turned out to be a long and interesting final set from Sam Cook. This is bowled very full and outside off. Luke Wood slams it wide of long off for a couple of runs. Chris Jordan is lightning quick to run back and Southern Brave end with 137/7 on the board.
OUT! DAVID MILLER IS RUN OUT! There was never a second run there. This is dug in short over middle and leg. David Miller hoicks the pull down to deep square leg and calls for two right away. Rachin Ravindra collects it on the bounce and fires in a throw at the keeper's end. Miller puts in a despairing dive as Phil Salt dislodges the bails, and Miller is well short. Luke Wood is in next.
WIDE! Pitched full but drifted down the leg side for a wide.
Jansen is struck on the same thumb again. Full and on off, David Miller drives it firmly but straight to extra cover.
WIDE! Dug in well short over middle, flies over the batter's head. Phil Salt wants to review, but he isn't allowed to.
Just a single and Cook gets out of the Free Hit. Full and straight, jammed down back past the bowler for a single.
Half an appeal for LBW, it is turned down and they get the single. Full ball on the pads, Miller fails to flick and gets an inside edge off the pads to the off side. The batters hesitantly go for the single. However, Sam Cook has overstepped and a No Ball is called. Free Hit to follow.
The Brave skipper, Chris Jordan is in next.
OUT! JOFRA ARCHER IS RUN OUT! Oh, it's all a bit comical out there. First the dropped catch, and then the run out. Sam Cook pitches it full on off. Miller hangs back and hammers it straight to extra cover. Marco Jansen spills the catch and seems to have hurt his thumb. Jofra Archer is halfway down the pitch when Miller sees him coming. Chris Woakes at mid off picks up the ball and throws it back to the bowler, who whips off the bails as Archer doesn't even turn back and continues his strut back to the pavilion.
Sam Cook to close out the innings.
FOUR! That's stellar placement from Miller. A low full toss on leg stump. David Miller gets the front leg out of the way again and hammers it towards cow corner for a boundary.
Not quite off the middle of the bat. Banged in short over middle, Miller pulls it more off the top edge of the blade and wide of deep mid-wicket for a brace.
SIX! Miller pumps it down the ground for half a dozen. Fuller in length, at the stumps but in the slot as well. Miller clears the front leg and swats it flat over wide long on for a maximum.
A searing yorker now, on off, Miller hangs back and squeezes it away wide of deep mid-wicket for a couple of easy runs.
Held back a bit by Ferguson, a skiddy length ball around off. Archer backs away and smacks it through square cover for one.
The effort ball from Woakes, dug in well short over off. Archer looks to pull but miscues it badly around the vacant mid-wicket region and picks up a single.
A yorker on off and middle, tails back in a bit. Archer jams it out between mid on and mid-wicket and races back for the second run as the long on fielder mops it up.
Slower one, slightly short and outside off. Jofra Archer rocks back and jams it down firmly to extra cover.
Jofra Archer is in next.
OUT! CAUGHT! That's a stunner from Joe Root to send Nikhil Chaudhary packing. Chris Woakes keeps the length full, bowling it outside off this time. Chaudhary drills the drive, a bit uppishly and to the right of extra cover. Joe Root flies to his right and snaffles it out of thin air. Chaudhary cannot believe it and the Brave are now 110/5, with 13 balls to play.
FOUR! The Fire are starting to show signs of a breakdown here. Too full and down the leg side, Chaudhary whips it using the wrists and one-bounce over the backward square leg fence.
Chris Woakes to bowl out now.
FOUR! That's smoked! Pace off, on a fuller length and outside off. Nikhil Chaudhary leans into the shot and pummels it through extra cover for a boundary.
Lockie goes back to bowling full and fast. Miller jams it to mid-wicket for a single.
FOUR! Miller takes full toll of the Free Hit. Another slower bumper, on leg stump. Miller gets inside the line and pulls it down to fine leg for a boundary. 100 up for the Brave now.
Slower one now, into the pitch as well. Chaudhary looks to cut but gets an inside edge just behind leg stump for a single. Uh, oh! Lockie Ferguson has overstepped here and a No Ball is called. Free Hit incoming...
