  • This will be the first men’s ODI fixture between Pakistan and India in more than four years after they last played each other in the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, with the Men in Blue winning by 89 runs then; indeed, India have won five of their last six games in the men’s format against Pakistan (L1) including their last three on the bounce.
  • This will be the sixth scheduled men’s ODI between Pakistan and India in Sri Lanka, but only two of these matches have produced results with both teams winning a game apiece; India won the most recent such completed game against the Shaheens by three wickets on 19 June 2010.
  • The Pallekele International Cricket Stadium is set to become the 50th venue to host a game between Pakistan and India in the men’s ODI format; the last time a venue hosted these two sides in this format for the first time was in 2018 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, UAE.
  • India have recorded four wins out of their last five men’s ODIs against Pakistan in the Asia Cup (L1) including winning their last two games on the bounce; the only win that the Shaheens recorded over the Men in Blue during this run was in Mirpur on 2 March 2014 (by one wicket).
  • Pakistan batters have had a collective batting average of 38.8 runs per wicket in the last one year in men’s ODI cricket, the highest such rate of all teams; India are third in the list, averaging 36.4 runs per wicket while batting (South Africa – 38.7 runs per wicket).
  • 57.5% of the balls that Indian bowlers have bowled in the last one year in men’s ODIs have been dot balls, with only Australia recording a batter such rate among full-member nations during the same period (58.2%); Pakistan are ranked 10th on the list among with a dot ball rate of 50.8%.
  • Virat Kohli (12,898 runs) is 102 away from becoming the second India batter after Sachin Tendulkar (18,426 runs) and the fifth overall to reach the 13000-run landmark in ODI cricket; if he does score a century in this game, then Pakistan will be the eighth different team against whom Kohli would have struck 3+ tons in the format.
  • Babar Azam (Pakistan) has registered 16 scores of 50+ runs in men’s ODI cricket since the beginning of 2022, the most by any batter; five of these scores have been centuries, the joint-most by any batter in men’s ODIs during the same period (also Shai Hope).
  • Ravindra Jadeja (194 wickets) is six wickets away from becoming the seventh India bowler to register 200 wickets in men’s ODI cricket; in doing so, Jadeja will become the second Indian after Kapil Dev (3,783 runs and 253 wickets) and 14th player overall to register 2000+ runs and bag 200 wickets in the format, having already scored 2,560 runs in men’s ODIs.
  • Mohammed Siraj (India) has bagged 25 wickets of top-order batters (batting positions 1-3) since the beginning of 2022 in men’s ODI cricket, the highest of all bowlers from full-member nations; Naseem Shah has taken most such wickets for Pakistan in the same period – 11 wickets, less than half of what Siraj has managed.
